ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Since the publication of the first Human Development Report in 1990 much advances have taken place in the methodology of capturing development through the human development index. For example although the widely accepted and endorsed dimensions of ‘long and healthy life’, ‘knowledge’ and ‘decent standard of living’ continue to occupy centre stage in measuring human development, scholars have argued about other important dimensions such as ‘political freedoms’ and ‘ecological limits’ that must receive equal emphasis. This workshop aims to deal with the measurement and accounting issues when we integrate environmental sustainability as a dimension in capturing human development.

This workshop will bring together perspectives of Academics and Practitioners on the field for a discussion on some of the following topics:

  • Ecological Footprints

  • Weak and Strong Sustainability Paths

  • Footprint Accounting

  • Ecological Creditors and Debtors

  • Measuring Sustainable Development

  • Sustainable Development Return on Investment

  • Development Projects and Ecological Issues

  • Tools of Multidimensional Poverty Analysis

  • Case studies
